  • Charlie Russell

Charlie Russell was born in St. Louis in 1864. Charlie and his horse "Monte" moved out of St. Louis at the age of 16, to live in Montana where he lived for 46 years. He was the first "western" artist to live the majority of his life in the west. Charlie enjoyed riding his horse and little did he know he would learn about horses and enjoy painting them.

Russell often used horses and detailed hand gestures to help tell his story. Charlie also enjoyed painting American Indians especially those of the Northern Plains. Charlie continued to live as a cowboy and wrangler until he was about 26 then retired, and gave up his horse to paint full time.

In 1890 he produced his first portfolio of paintings, at this time he did not sell a lot of his paintings, he was learning about art, and his passion for art kept growing. In 1896 Charlie married Nancy Cooper, she was 16 years old, they settled down in Great Falls, Montana. It was there that he completed all of his major paintings after he finishing his studio in 1903. Charlie Russell completed about 4,000 pieces of art during his lifetime.

    Adeline Halvorson

Adeline Halvorson said once "My growth as an artist is of prime importance to me. I am continually researching new and better ways to approach my painting, all the while keeping in mind that "brush mileage" is my greatest teacher. I paint the subjects that are true to my heart, and definitely believe the words of Sir Winston Churchill:"

"There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man"

Adeline Halvorson always knew that she wanted to be an artist. Adeline is mostly known by her horse paintings. Adeline taught herself to develop techniques, first pastel, then in acrylic. She has been dedicated to being an artist, knowing what she has wanted to paint and dedicating her whole heart to art. Adeline has enjoyed horses since she was a child. Adeline spent years taking care of horses, she does enjoy riding horses which is an experience in itself, but also helpful to keeping herself physically fit. Riding a horse is not an easy task it is a physical activity that develops endurance and a healthy lifestyle. Spending quality time with horses helps her to paint their individual character, to understand there everyday life.

Creating amazing art by experience, her art is quality and recommended. Adeline Halvorson's art won prizes on several different occasions. -First Place at Canadian Artist, Acrylics Category -2003 Draft Horse Classic Art Show - Grass Valley, California -Chosen favorite artist by the Honda Resort, hosts of the Best of the West Show - Pine Top, Arizona

Tips for Choosing Art Work for Your Home

When shopping for art for your living room, here are a few things to keep in mind before you buy an original painting, artist reproduction or a framed art print.

Choose an artwork piece that compliments the color scheme and mood of your rooms current decor.

If you room has a theme (i.e. modern, shabby chic, country or sophisticated) make sure the art print's theme and design you pick supports the same theme as you room.

With any artwork from expensive original artwork to an inexpensive art print, framing is an important step to have the art be appreciated and make a statement. Poorly framed art tends to look cheap and neglected no matter how much you spent.

And lastly, make sure your art pieces do not come into contact with direct sunlight without UV protective glass to protect the colors in your artwork from fading over time.
